Upside Down Orange Cake
Impress someone with this beautiful cake. It’s unique, it’s different and it’s easy! You’ll need:
For the Oranges:
2 oranges (1 blood orange and 1 normal orange)
200 ml water
300 grams granulated sugar
For the Cake:
4 tsps grated orange zest
200 ml strained fresh orange juice
280 grams all-purpose flour
2 tsps baking powder
1 tsp salt
300 grams caster sugar
75 grams unsalted butter
75 grams sour cream
3 large eggs
Method
Cut a mix of blood oranges and normal oranges into slices.
Add the oranges to pan of water and sugar. Stir until the sugar has dissolved in pan. Layer in the blood orange slices and cook for about 10 minutes
Mix together butter, sour cream, and orange zest
Add the sugar, ensuring to mix until the mixture is light and fluffy
Remember to scrape down the sides of the bowl
Add the eggs slowly and mix well
Fold in the dry ingredients (sifted flour, baking powder and salt)
Add a layer of alternating orange slices at the bottom of the pan - the more oranges you put the more the mixture won’t seep through
Pour the cake mixture into the pan
Bake for about 30 minutes on 180 degrees Celsius
Wait for it to cool
And serve with cream!
